I’ll be at the auction. Bidding.

That was all the information he could give her. Plus, it might force her hand into going up for auction. Taylor had mentioned something about Kali didn’t feel she would get any money for herself and she wanted more eligible people up there to be bid on.

He had to admit, the auction was a terrific idea. Putting him as a front runner, however, was not.

He couldn’t bid anything up, if he was on the stage. And getting Kali the most money he could would only happen, if he could bid on her.

Because bidding on anyone else just wasn’t an option.

As if a plug was pulled, customers started leaving the diner in twos and threes, suddenly leaving Flynne sitting alone while the waitress cleared tables and put the tubs of dirty dishes into the back of the kitchen.

If he was ever going to get an opportunity, it was going to be right then.

Standing, Flynne tossed some bills on the table for his coffee and he strode from the dining area. In the foyer, he paused, like he planned to stop at the board, stared at a top corner of the corkboard rectangle and then deftly switched out the cards in the bottom.

Taking a deep breath, he strode from the diner, his pulse racing. It wasn’t the end of the world, if he got caught. His nerves though, suggested that he wanted to help Kali a lot more than he was admitting, even to himself.

All he had to do was get to the auction and make sure he got her cash. That’s what he had to keep telling himself.

Flynne ignored the twinge of hurt he had at the thought that she’d pushed him out of helping with the sabotage of showings. She was independent. He had to keep that in mind. One of the things he loved about her couldn’t also be one of the things that drove him nuts about her, could it?

No. He’d have to learn to get over those things.

At least, he’d have to if he wanted to stay in her life. He needed to figure out what capacity he wanted with her. Because no matter what he wanted, he had to make sure it was what she wanted.

Could they only be friends or could Flynne have the option for more?

And that’s when the truth hit him. He wanted more with Kali. He wanted the chance to see what they could do together, and not as friends.

Great. Her independently stubborn streak was going to be the death of them before he’d even had a chance to prove to her how good they could be.

Climbing on Jezebel, Flynne narrowed his eyes. He had to figure out how to get Kali to soften toward him. Giving Kali money suddenly seemed a whole lot easier when compared to getting her to like him.

Exponentially easier.
